There appears to be only one thing in America that can heal the partisan divide between Republicans and Democrats prior to the Nov. 8 presidential election: dogs.
A new “experiment” by the Pedigree dog food company has generated millions of views in less than one week. The commercial shows a woman wading through throngs of Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton supporters with a lost Golden Retriever. In each clip, the woman displays clothing that would normally get her labeled an agitator. The dog’s presence, however, seems to cause people to transcend partisan politics.
“Right now, we are a country very much divided,” text reads at the start of the video, which was uploaded to YouTube Nov. 2. “This election has brought out the worst in us. We sought to remind people what brings out the good.”
“I’ve been a dog-lover forever,” one man says. “Dogs don’t criticize.”
“We have our differences, but everyone loves dogs,” another says.
“I love that when apparently when it comes to dogs there are no political parties,” a third woman says after the dog’s owner is found.
Pedigree’s ad has over 2.3 million views in five days.
“This is pretty great. I didn’t want to skip this one and I’m glad I didn’t,” said one YouTube viewer.
“This has restored my faith in humanity,” added Lillian Lyles on Friday.
Others joked that the U.S would be better off if dogs could be elected commander in chief.
