CASPER, Wyo. (AP) - Wyoming Medical Center in Casper has cut back on the amount of charity care it provides but still has more than $24 million in costs for the fiscal year 2016.
The Casper Star-Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/2eOLRBW ) that care for the needy declined by about $300,000, bad debt still rose in 2016. The hospital had $6.3 million more in unpaid bills for those who did not qualify for charity care 2016 than in 2015.
Between charity care and unpaid bills, the hospital provided $57 million worth of unpaid care, compared to $51 million in 2015.
Hospital officials say they still have an operating profit margin o 1.8 percent, though that in part was due to a $10.8 million budget cut that included the layoffs of 58 staff.
