MACOMB TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - A vigil is planned for a 14-year-old girl struck and killed by an SUV while crossing a road to get to school in suburban Detroit.

WWJ-AM reports (https://cbsloc.al/2eJSVjq ) the candlelight vigil is set for Saturday evening outside Dakota High School in Macomb Township for Victoria Cartwright. She died Friday morning after being struck by a Jeep Wrangler driven by a 16-year-old girl also heading to the school.

Dakota principal Paul Sibley says in a statement Victoria had a “kind heart” and was “well-liked” by students and faculty. He adds she “will be remembered as a creative, artistic student who had her own unique sense of style.”



The driver had a 16-year-old passenger and the Macomb County sheriff’s department says they weren’t injured. The crash is under investigation.
