MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - An annual hunting tradition in Vermont is taking place this weekend when young hunters get a chance to bag a deer.
Hunters 15 years or younger are eligible to participate in the state’s youth deer hunt weekend as long as they’re accompanied by an unarmed licensed adult and hold their own hunting license.
Young hunters may take one male or female deer.
The Vermont Department of Fish & Wildlife says department personnel will be at some of the big game reporting stations collecting biological information about the deer harvest. Young hunters are encouraged to stop in and get their deer weighed and examined by a state wildlife biologist.
The regular rifle deer hunting season opens Nov. 12.
