PATERSON, N.J. (AP) - Authorities say an emaciated dog that was thrown out of a moving car in New Jersey last weekend has died.

The 6-pound Shih Tzu mix died Friday at an animal hospital. Veterinarians believe the dog died of complications from severe neglect, but they will conduct a necropsy.

The incident occurred Oct. 29 in Paterson. Witnesses say the driver slowed down and the passenger door opened before the dog was tossed.

The animal was initially unable to walk and smelled like fecal matter and urine. It also had matted fur that covered its eyes and prevented it from seeing.

Authorities tell The Record (https://bit.ly/2fFMrqt) that they have a suspect and will likely file charges in the next few days. The person will be charged criminally because the dog died.
