GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) - A Greensboro museum is removing its display of rifles, muskets and other guns used in the Civil War after 16 years on display.

Greensboro Historical Museum Director Carol Ghiorsi Hart told the News & Record (https://bit.ly/2fOdWgP ) that she is not pulling the guns from exhibition space because of any political pressure.

Hart says the museum doesn’t have a lot of space and is ready to chance exhibits.

California doctor John Murphy loaned his collection of nearly 150 guns to the museum in 1998, then bequeathed it when he died.

Hart says the museum is proud of the collection, which was the largest in the world and worth more than $2 million when the museum obtained it.

The full collection will be replaced next June with a World War I exhibit.
