CORINTH, Miss. (AP) - Living history demonstrations are taking place this weekend on a Civil War battle site in north Mississippi.

The National Park Service is hosting the Grand Illumination in Corinth.

Members of a living history organization from Alabama are conducting infantry demonstrations Saturday at the Civil War Interpretive Center. They are portraying the 43rd Mississippi Infantry, which fought in Iuka and Corinth battles and took part in the siege of Vicksburg.

One event honors soldiers killed or wounded during the 1862 siege and battle of Corinth. About 12,000 luminaries are being lit Saturday evening in downtown Corinth and around the interpretive center, representing the Union and Confederate casualties.

The Civil War camps are open to the public from 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Saturday, and 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Sunday.
