SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (AP) - Fire officials say nobody was hurt when a massive blaze engulfed a San Bernardino pallet yard and damaged a neighboring building.

A huge plume of black smoke was sent up by the fire that broke out around 4 a.m. southeast of downtown San Bernardino.

Dozens of firefighters with nearly 20 engines and a bulldozer kept the flames from reaching a nearby strip mall.

Crews had the fire under control within about two hours.

The intense heat melted large plastic containers at a nearby business.

The cause is under investigation.
