NATCHEZ, Miss. (AP) - Natchez Fire Chief Aaron Wesley has been suspended for reportedly violating an unspecified city policy.

Mayor Darryl Grennell says he suspended Wesley with pay Tuesday but declined to say why, noting that members of the Board of Aldermen have not had a chance to discuss the matter.

The Natchez Democrat reports (https://bit.ly/2emeeXh ) the board meets Tuesday and Grennell said Wesley’s suspension would be discussed then.

Grennell says Battalion Chief Leland Rymer has been appointed to lead the department in Wesley’s absence.

Wesley, who was appointed chief in July 2015, could not be reached for comment.

Wesley joined the Natchez Fire Department in 1982 and served as lieutenant, captain, battalion chief and fire marshal before being named chief.
