PONTIAC, Mich. (AP) - Two workers have been injured following a fall of up to 30 feet inside a water tower in Pontiac, northwest of Detroit.
Firefighters pulled them one at a time Friday afternoon from what appeared to be the structure’s ground floor.
They were rushed to hospitals for treatment. One was airlifted away by a helicopter.
Police said the workers were painting and cleaning. Their conditions were not immediately known.
Waterford Township Fire Lt. John Phebus said it wasn’t immediately “clear if it was an equipment failure or something gave way but they fell inside the tower which had been drained for repairs.”
Phebus said other workers reported the accident.
The Detroit News reports that the water tower is operated by the Oakland County Water Resource Commission.
