COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Gov. Nikki Haley and her family will kick off the holiday season with an annual tree-lighting ceremony at the Statehouse.
The 50th annual Governor’s Carolighting starts at 6 p.m. Thursday on the north steps of the Statehouse. The tree-lighting program begins an hour later.
Haley will be joined by her husband Michael and their two children.
This year’s state Christmas tree is a 35-foot-tall white fir from a tree farm in Swanton, Maryland.
The free, public event is sponsored by the Columbia Metropolitan Convention & Visitors Bureau, the Columbia Garden Club and the Garden Club of South Carolina. WYFF-TV anchor Nigel Robertson will again host the event.
