HOOVER, Ala. (AP) - The man who police say shot his stepdaughter’s boyfriend during a dispute has been released from jail without being charged with any crime.

Hoover police officials said Monday the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office will present the case to an upcoming grand jury to determine if criminal charges are appropriate.

Lt. Keith Czeskleba tells The Birmingham News (https://bit.ly/2gRD1Ik) authorities have not released the man’s name.

Czeskleba says 24-year-old Howard Hardy was killed in the shooting Sunday morning.

He says those interviews, along with autopsy results and evidence from the scene, were all presented to prosecutors who made the decision to defer charges to a grand jury.
