WASHINGTON (AP) - District of Columbia police are looking for a man who was caught on surveillance video firing a gun at the time and place where a 16-year-old girl was fatally shot.
Interim police chief Peter Newsham said Tuesday that detectives are looking for 30-year-old Saeve (sah-EVE) Evans.
Thus far, Evans has only been charged with unlawful possession of a firearm. Newsham says Evans is a convicted felon.
Sixteen-year-old Breyona McMillian was shot multiple times shortly before noon on Friday outside a housing project in the Capitol Hill neighborhood. She died at a hospital. Police have said they don’t believe she was the intended target.
Newsham says the video shows Evans firing a gun at that time and place. He says there was a crowd of people in the area.
