A child’s plea from Syria to “Harry Potter” author J.K. Rowling did not go unanswered.
Bana Alabed, a 7-year-old girl inside Aleppo, recently reached out to Ms. Rowling on Twitter to praise the movie versions of her famous books. The girl said she was hoping to one day read the tales “to forget the war,” so Ms. Rowling made sure the entire “Harry Potter” eBook catalog was successfully sent within two days.
“Bana, I hope you do read the book, because I think you’d like it. Sending you lots and lots of love xxx,” Ms. Rowling replied via Twitter, CNN reported Friday.
The little girl thanked the author and said her three younger brothers would eventually read them as well.
“I started reading your books. Thank you very, very, much!” Bana tweeted Thursday. “I love you!”
The child’s mother, a 26-year-old identified as Fatemah, told CNN Friday that she created the child’s verified Twitter account to “share our life here to the world.’’ Over 100,000 people follow the family’s regular dispatches.
The Syrian Center for Policy Research (SCPR), a nonpartisan nonprofit organization, estimated in February that 470,000 deaths can be attributed to the five-year conflict.
Nearly 2 million Syrians have also been injured since the civil war began in March 2011.
