Americans have a message for President-elect Donald Trump: Stop tweeting!
A Quinnipiac University poll released Tuesday showed that 59 percent of American voters want Mr. Trump to shut down his personal Twitter account.
“Voters tell President-elect Donald Trump, ’You’ve got the job. Now be a leader not a tweeter,’” said Tim Malloy, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Poll.
Still, a majority of Americans — 59 percent — said they are “optimistic” about the next four years with Mr. Trump in the White House.
Mr. Trump’s prolific tweeting during the camping circumvented traditional news media to get his message out to voters. But he also spurred intense criticism for his sometimes rude remarks, especially insults hurled at his rivals.
The president-elect has continued to tweet, including admonishing the cast of the hit Broadway show “Hamilton” for lecturing Vice President-elect Mike Pence when he was in the audience.
He also took a jab at NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” for spoofing him this weekend: “I watched parts of @nbcsnl Saturday Night Live last night. It is a totally one-sided, biased show - nothing funny at all. Equal time for us?”
Overall, the poll found that more Americans think Mr. Trump will be a good president than think he will be a bad president.
About 17 percent said he will be “great” and 32 percent said he’d be “good,” compared to 17 percent who said he’d be “not so good” and 26 percent who said he would be “bad,” according to the poll.
