OPINION:
Donald J. Trump is the president-elect, and as expected the Democrats and liberals are doing their best to deter him from carrying out his campaign agenda. The organized protests, condemnation of his early nominees and the continued false accusations of racism will continue. All Republicans should be objective and supportive of Mr. Trump’s nominees, even if some do not meet all their criteria.
The Democrats and liberals have two talking points: what Mr. Trump and his nominees might do, and ’this-is-not-who-we-are-as-a-country’ line. The Democrats lose on both counts, Bill Clinton did not take Osama bin Laden from Sudan or have him killed when the opportunity presented, Sept. 11, 2001, could have been averted and 3,000 innocent people might still be living with their families. Mr. Clinton forced lenders to provide mortgage loans to unqualified individuals and the Democrats refused to regulate Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. If they had, the housing crisis and recession could have been avoided and millions of people would have had jobs, not food stamps and unemployment checks.
President Obama promised bipartisanship, transparency and to unite Americans. Yet he, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid refused to allow Republicans to draft or amend bills, and they passed the partisan Affordable Care Act, which has left 20 million people uninsured, has able-bodied men on Medicaid, and has caused serious delays for patients seeking treatment. The law warrants full repeal and replacement.
The Republicans better represent who we are as a country, they respect the Constitution and rule of law and do not engage in violent, destructive protests. These are the reasons Republicans should work together and support their leaders for the good of our country and our citizens.
