TACOMA, Wash. (AP) - A man authorities have described as a serial robber who was shot in the head by a Puyallup police officer has been ordered jailed on $1 million bail.
The News Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/2fDt8h1 ) that Jay Maria Christensen pleaded not guilty during his arraignment Tuesday on charges of unlawful gun possession, obstructing police and robbery.
Prosecutors say Christensen robbed a Denny’s restaurant at gunpoint on Oct. 19 before fleeing in a truck driven by 49-year-old Steven Mikeal Sommer.
Court documents say police pursued the suspects along State Route 512 until the getaway car crashed into a concrete overpass support pillar.
When officers approached the truck, police say Christensen pointed a gun at Sommer and was shot by an officer.
Sommer says Christensen threatened him to run from the police.
