Sen. Ted Cruz said Thursday he’s eager to work with President-elect Donald Trump wherever he can have the “greatest impact” defending the principles he was elected to defend, saying they had a “far-reaching conversation” earlier this week at Trump Tower.
Mr. Cruz said they had a “very productive” meeting and spent “several hours” in Trump Tower.
“I’m eager to work with the new president — whatever capacity I can have the greatest impact defending the principles that I was elected to defend,” Mr. Cruz said on “Fox & Friends.”
He said he’s looking forward to working with Mr. Trump on repealing Obamacare, confirming “strong Supreme Court Justices” and protecting the constitutional rights of Americans.
Mr. Cruz’s name has been mentioned as a possible attorney general pick.
“We had a far-reaching conversation,” he said. “It was a good opportunity to talk about the election, about the challenges facing the country.”
Mr. Cruz was Mr. Trump’s top rival in the 2016 GOP presidential primary contest. The Texas senator famously declined to endorse Mr. Trump in a prime-time speech at the Republican National Convention in July, but later announced he would indeed support him.
On recent protests of Mr. Trump’s election, Mr. Cruz said there is now “hypocrisy on rank display from the left.”
“All of the folks who jumped on their high horse and were lecturing to President-elect Trump, you’ve got to accept the results of the election … these are now the idiots that are protesting in the street, laying their bodies down in front of cars and disrupting traffic,” he said.
