President-elect Donald Trump has been “unbelievably impressed” with Sen. Jeff Sessions — notably Mr. Sessions’ legal career as Alabama’s attorney general and a U.S. attorney — according to Mr. Trump’s transition team.

“While nothing has been finalized and he is still talking with others as he forms his cabinet, the President-elect has been unbelievably impressed with Senator Sessions and his phenomenal record as Alabama’s Attorney General and U.S. Attorney. It is no wonder the people of Alabama re-elected him without opposition,” said a statement from Mr. Trump’s transition team on Thursday.

Mr. Trump and Mr. Sessions — the first sitting U.S. senator to endorse Mr. Trump’s candidacy — met Wednesday in New York.

Mr. Trump has a number of top-level administration positions to fill, including attorney general.

Other names that have been mentioned as possible attorney general picks are Sen. Ted Cruz and Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach.
