President-elect Donald Trump on Wednesday denied that he is seeking to get “top level” security clearance for his adult children and said reports suggesting otherwise are false.

“I am not trying to get ’top level security clearance’ for my children. This was a typically false news story,” Mr. Trump tweeted Wednesday.

ABC News reported Tuesday that a low-level staffer no longer with the team overstepped his boundaries and made a request without authorization.

Three of Mr. Trump’s children — Donald Jr., Eric, and Ivanka — and Jared Kushner, his son-in-law, are part of the presidential transition team.

Since the initial reports surfaced earlier this week, critics have said granting Mr. Trump’s children access to state secrets could present a conflict of interest if they are indeed entrusted to run the family business once he takes office.
