EDISON, N.J. (AP) - Police are investigating after the body of an unidentified man was found among the damage a brush fire caused near the U.S. Route 1 bridge in Edison.

NJ.com reports (https://bit.ly/2g4ZLoL ) the man’s body was discovered around 6:15 a.m. Sunday by firefighters extinguishing a blaze in a wooded area behind the Valley Manor Apartments.

The apartments sit near the southbound lanes of the Rt. 1 bridge, which spans the Raritan River.



A joint statement issued by Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew Carey and Edison Police Chief Thomas Bryan said the victim was pronounced dead at 9:50 a.m.

Police and firefighters remained at the scene throughout the morning.

Information regarding the fire’s cause and the circumstances surrounding the man’s death weren’t immediately available.
