NEW YORK (AP) - A New York City man is accused of stealing a bus and then crashing it after a half-mile drive.

Police say the bus driver was getting ready to start his express route on Staten Island when the incident occurred at around 5:30 p.m. Friday.

The Staten Island Advance says a man boarded the bus, indicated he had a gun, and told the driver to take him to the depot.

On the way, he demanded the driver get off the bus.

He then took the wheel, hitting three parked cars and a telephone pole during his erratic drive.

There were no injuries.
