PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Thousands of comic book fans are pouring into downtown Providence this weekend for the annual Rhode Island Comic Con.

Organizers are expecting more than 50,000 attendees for this year’s three-day event at the Dunkin Donuts Center and Rhode Island Convention Center.

Friday’s opening kicked off with a trio of zombies chomping into a ceremonial ribbon and drew about 13,000 visitors. Saturday is already sold out.

As usual, the event is drawing celebrities from comic book, sci-fi and horror movies and television shows, including the star of the upcoming Wonder Woman movie Gal Gadot as well as actor Christian Slater and rocker Alice Cooper.

Marvel Comics’ 93-year-old publisher Stan Lee, who helped create iconic characters like Spider-Man, The Hulk and The X-Men, is also expected to attend.
