NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (AP) - Authorities say a Massachusetts police officer was seriously injured after he was run over by a dirt bike during the arrests of several people.
New Bedford Lt. Amos Melo says Sgt. Candido Trinidad was run over in the city’s North End on Monday. He was taken to Rhode Island Hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening.
Melo says the dirt bike that hit Trinidad was one of a group of off-road vehicles stopped by city police for creating a menace throughout the evening. Nine people, including the driver, have been arrested. They’re scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday.
