OPINION:
For some time I have been pointing out to everyone the perilous road our nation is traveling. It is one that has led us to the very situation we are facing now: the open rise of extremism at home and the presence of a literal minefield abroad. Yes, we got out of the recession and the numbers are now more favorable, but has anyone taken a good look at the American soul these days?
Friends, the American soul has become totally fractured. Statistics tell clearly how pessimistic we have become, while the presidential campaign openly points to the dangerous levels of anger and extreme partisanship characterizing 2016. But what are we to do at this 25th hour?
The way out is around an emergent coalition of moderate members from both major political parties with a candidate all Americans can respect. This can grow out of either party or it can be a third party in its own right. The two basic truths of this presidential election are that Donald Trump is unqualified and Hillary Clinton, as Marco Rubio so well put it, is the “past.”
The past is the continuation of the path to disaster we are currently on. We simply cannot continue like this. Let a group of distinguished, outstanding Americans recruit a capable, honest candidate to lead us.
