Sen. John Barrasso of Wyoming has been tapped to lead the platform committee at the Republican National Convention.

Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus said Mr. Barrasso will serve as chairman, and Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin and Rep. Virginia Fox of North Carolina will serve as co-chairs of the committee, which is tasked with laying out the party’s mission statement.

“Writing the platform is a critical task, and as we enter one of the most important elections of our lifetime, our party is eager to lead an American resurgence by standing on our commitment to life, individual liberty, a strong national defense, and an economy that works for all Americans,” Mr. Priebus said in a statement.

The job could be more challenging this year given that presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump has spelled out policies that have given some Republicans heartburn and are at odds with House Speaker Paul Ryan’s stances on trade, immigration and entitlements.

Mr. Ryan is set to chair the convention in Cleveland, which kicks off in mid-July.
