Powerball officials drew numbers Wednesday for a $60 million prize, a week after a family ticket pool in New Jersey claimed a $429 million prize from 11 days ago.
The winning numbers were 25-67-39-23-54, with the red Powerball being 11.
The multi-state lottery reset in the wake of Pearlie Mae Smith and her seven adult children winning a huge prize that had grown through more than nine weeks of twice-weekly drawings without a winner.
But while Wednesday’s $60 million jackpot is a fraction of that prize, it isn’t chicken feed either. If taken as a lump sum, as most recent big lottery winners have chosen to do, it would be worth $40 million. Federal taxes would quickly take almost 40 percent of that amount and state taxes a possibility on top of that.
The $2 Powerball tickets are sold in 44 states, along with the District of Columbia and some U.S. territories.
