Whatever your day job is, it’s probably not as weird as Tom Estey’s.

Responding to a tabloid report that Richard Simmons was in the process of transitioning to a female gender identity by the name of Fiona, the representative for the “Sweatin’ to the Oldies” icon categorically denied the rumor on Wednesday.

“It’s not true,” People magazine quoted Mr. Estey. “He is not transitioning into a woman. He has decided to live quietly the last few years. He had knee surgery a few years ago and has a bum knee.”

The rumor appears to have started due in part to Mr. Simmons’s recent hospitalization.

“I was dehydrated and needed some fluids and now I am feeling great!” he wrote on Facebook on Sunday. “Summer is here – drink plenty of liquids,” Mr. Simmons urged fans.

People magazine noted that Mr. Estey went to the press earlier this year to squelch a rumor that Mr. Simmons was being held captive in his home.

Those claims were “untrue and preposterous” and Mr. Simmons was “simply taking a break from the public eye,” the rep said back in March.
