Former NFL quarterback Tim Tebow led a Delta Air Lines flight in prayer Sunday night as crew helped a man suffering an apparent heart attack.
Richard Gotti, a passenger on the Phoenix-bound flight from Atlanta, wrote about the incident on Facebook.
“I watched strangers from all over the world and every ethnicity come to the help of this man for over an hour! Then all of a sudden, I observed a guy walking down the aisle. That guy was Tim Tebow,” Mr. Gotti wrote. “He met with the family as they cried on his shoulder! I watched Tim pray with the entire section of the plane for this man. He made a stand for God in a difficult situation.”
A separate Instagram post by Pamela Rainey showed Mr. Tebow sitting in front of her.
“I sat right behind #timtebow on my @delta to #Phoenix! We had a medical emergency on the flight. Tim helped the family deplane with their baggage. So #compassionate!” she wrote.
Mr. Gotti wrote that once the plane landed in Phoenix, medical officials were able to revive a pulse in the passenger, who had been unconscious.
The passenger later died at the hospital, People magazine reported.
Erik Dellenbach, executive director of the Tim Tebow Foundation, confirmed to the Florida Times-Union that Mr. Tebow prayed with the family and other passengers after the medical emergency.
After the plane landed, Mr. Dellenbach said Mr. Tebow used a car that had been waiting for him to carry the man’s family to the hospital.
Delta Air Lines spokesman Brian Kruse confirmed that there had been a medical emergency during the flight and that paramedics assisted the family, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.
“We can’t say enough about the Delta professionals who care for our customers every day and we are grateful to our customers who are so often quick to extend kindness and care to one another,” he said.
