Ride-sharing service Uber announced Friday that this weekend it will offer “free rides to and from places that are important to the history and culture of local LGBT communities in cities across the U.S. and Canada.”
The company website listed 41 different service areas where the promotion would be in effect from noon Friday through 11:59 p.m. on Monday night.
In addition to the promotion, Uber urges customers Orlando-area customers to give to the OneOrlando Fund.
In an email, a company representative told The Washington Times that it’s the company’s first such LGBT pride promotion “at least at this scale” and that it had not been planned prior to Sunday’s deadly terrorist attack on the Pulse nightclub in Orlando.
