Malia Obama graduated from an exclusive private school in Washington Friday, with her father saying he’d wear sunglasses to hide his tears.
The elder daughter of President Obama and first lady Michelle Obama received her diploma from Sidwell Friends School, where tuition is $39,360 per year. Miss Obama, 17, will be taking a year off before attending Harvard University in 2017.
White House press secretary Josh Earnest said the Obamas are “enormously proud” of their daughter’s accomplishments.
After graduation, the first family went out to lunch at Cafe Milano, a pricey Italian restaurant in Georgetown.
