The Atlanta Police Department says it’s taking action against an officer apparently caught napping in his patrol car in a photo that caught backlash over the weekend.
The photo was posted on local Twitter account @GAFollowers late Sunday morning and quickly racked up hundreds of retweets.
“Sleep with your lights on? Atlanta’s finest..” the account tweeted with a photo of the unnamed officer slumped over inside his marked vehicle with his police lights on.
“Yes we are aware,” the police department tweeted in response. “We have identified him and are taking appropriate action.”
Commenters were largely sympathetic to the officer in the photo, saying that he was probably overworked.
On Wednesday, the police department wrote that the officer “hasn’t been fired.”
