Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump on Monday said he plans to attend his wife Melania’s speech at the Republican National Convention later in the day.
“I’d love to be there when my wife speaks, so the answer is yes, I will be there,” Mr. Trump said on “Fox and Friends.”
“In my mind, I just don’t want to say it, so I’ll keep it quiet just among us: I will be there. I want to watch,” he said. “It’s going to be very exciting.”
Mr. Trump said his wife is going to be speaking about “her love of the country.”
“Don’t forget — she came into the country,” he said. “She worked hard; she came into the country. She gained legal status, as the expression goes, and she’s a terrific person and a terrific woman.”
“I’ll bet she gives a great speech,” he said. “She’s worked hard on it.”
The theme for Monday, the opening day of the GOP convention in Cleveland, is “Make America Safe Again.”
In addition to Mrs. Trump, scheduled speakers include former Texas Gov. Rick Perry; retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn; Sen. Jeff Sessions of Alabama; Milwaukee County, Wisconsin Sheriff David Clarke; and House Homeland Security Chairman Michael McCaul.
Also scheduled to speak are Mark Geist and John Tiegen, two survivors of the Sept. 11, 2012, terrorist attack in Benghazi, Libya, as well as Pat Smith, who is the mother of Sean Smith, one of four Americans killed in the attack.
Other scheduled speakers include “Duck Dynasty” star Willie Robertson and actor Scott Baio.
