Thank you for publishing “Collapse of crude oil price could force Putin to surprise the world militarily” (Web, Jan. 3). The article was well done.
There are probably dozens of struggling oilmen in the United States who have fantasized about what it would be like if the oil fields of Saudi Arabia were taken offline by a military strike, and Russian President Vladimir Putin may just have the stones to actually do it.
Much of Russia’s revenue is dependent upon oil, and oil prices directly influence the price at which Russia can sell natural gas — meaning low oil prices pack a double whammy for Mr. Putin.
