OPINION:
Your Jan. 1 lead editorial was on the mark, but it only just grazed the bull’s eye (“Yes to legal guns).
The recent legal (but unnecessary) ruling by Virginia Attorney Gen. Mark Herring, while pleasing to former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, dishonored citizens’ rights in Virginia and 25 other states, and it will have untoward consequences, as capricious fiats often do.
Any person who can legally possess a firearm can still carry it openly in Virginia without any permit.
Only concealed carry is covered by the permitting system, including the reciprocity now made illegal.
When you have another occasion to cover this issue, it might be a useful public service to explain this as another unintended (and doubtless unwelcome) consequence of leftist governmental actions.
