University of Iowa police said they have arrested a man for chucking tomatoes at Donald Trump during a campaign rally in Iowa City Tuesday night.
Officials said Andrew Joseph Alemao, 28, was observed throwing two tomatoes at the GOP presidential front-runner as he spoke on the stage of the University of Iowa Field House, the Des Moines Register reported.
The first toss fell far short of Mr. Trump while the second sailed over his shoulder, according to reports. Mr. Alemao was taken into custody by Secret Service and university police.
Reporters posted photos on social media of the splattered tomato remains.
Mr. Alemao was booked at Johnson County Jail Tuesday night and charged with disorderly conduct, a simple misdemeanor punishable by a fine of up to $625 or 30 days in prison.
A GoFundMe account set up in Mr. Alemao’s defense had since raised $65.
