The U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum is honoring a man who helped rescue more than 600 children from Nazi-occupied Czechoslovakia on the eve of World War II.

The daughter of Sir Nicholas Winton will talk about his life during a free program at the museum on Thursday night. Barbara Winton drew from her father’s diaries and personal papers to write a book about his exploits.

Nicholas Winton organized a series of rescue missions to transport the children to England. Most were Jewish, and their families were later killed in the Holocaust.

Joining Barbara Winton will be Alice Masters, who was one of the children saved by Nicholas Winton. She now lives in Bethesda.
