Josh Abbott Band

“Front Row Seat”

Pretty Damn Tough Records/Thirty Tigers

Texans Josh Abbott Band are embarking on their first headlining tour in 2016, including an upcoming stop at the District’s 9:30 Club Jan. 28. On the toe-tapping new disc “Front Row Seat,” Mr. Abbott and his Lone Star cronies pony up some celebratory country/bluegrass that’s an ode to both their home state and the musical stylings that brought them up.

“I’ve Been Known” is a self-aggrandizing and self-pitying ode to introspection, and “Live It While You Got It” is a gently ribbing take on male-female courtship and the importance of seizing the here and now. “Wasn’t That Drunk,” a duet with Carly Pearce, is a fantastic meditation on how much in love is premised on alcohol and how much on true motivations, while the lovely “Front Row Seat” takes appreciation of life to new heights. “Born to Break Your Heart” is, obviously, a heartbreaker, while “This Isn’t Easy” is a burner about lost love. “Anonymity” is a soothingly meditative album closer.

Tickets for the Jan. 28 9:30 Club are $25 by going to 930.com.
