OPINION:
“There’s a special place in hell for women who don’t help each other.” So declares Madeleine Albright, former U.S. secretary of state, diplomatic sage and dispenser of political wisdom, in her recent endorsement of Hillary Rodham Clinton’s presidential candidacy. Now, I don’t know about hell, but it is likely there’s a special place in the corner, on the dunce chair, for women who actually believe Mrs. Clinton cares one whit about their lives and concerns.
Those priorities must take a number and get in line behind her personal to-do list (avoiding jail and continuing to enrich herself are two that quickly spring to mind). It is remarkable that during this election season, emerging as it does from all that has been bungled and ignored for nearly eight years, the Democrats would put forward as worthy of consideration a shop-worn Clinton and a 74-year-old socialist. If someone had told me 10 years ago that this would be our national reality, I would probably have responded with “Oh, please” or words to that effect.
As the world turns now, the last thing this country needs is a Clinton or a Sanders directing traffic. I wish I could be certain that the existing American electorate will not confuse this national election with “American Idol.”
