OPINION:
The oppressive tyranny of political correctness as a social-control mechanism has enjoyed a long run in American politics — but under no administration has it flourished as powerfully or cruelly as it has under the administration of President Obama. Supporters are flocking to Republican candidate Donald Trump for many reasons, but certainly chief among them are Mr. Trump’s direct frontal attacks on political correctness. On his denunciations of the trend, Mr. Trump has unequivocally both ’talked the talk’ and ’walked the walk’ (“Donald Trump dominates in Nevada,” Web, Feb. 24).
Should candidate Trump continue to prevail on Super Tuesday, it would reflect a seething resentment against political correctness which few citizens heretofore have been able to express for fear of very likely retaliation, including the destruction of their personal lives and the ending of their careers. I would argue that it is only in the privacy of the voting booth and the anonymity of the ballot that voters are able to express their feelings and attitudes through their surrogate, Donald Trump.
