Best actress nominee Brie Larson, star of “Room,” said that making the film, about a woman and her child held captive, gave her a better understanding and appreciation of single mothers, including her own mother.
“I grew up with a single mom in a small apartment, and I realize this was a way to [honor] my mother,” Miss Larson said on the Oscars red carpet.
“There’s so many things you can’t possibly understand” as a child, she said.
