OPINION:
It doesn’t surprise me that seemingly legitimate charitable organizations, such as the Wounded Warrior Project, spend far too much money on
overhead, promotion and its own people (particularly its top leadership), while spending far too little on its intended target: veterans (“Wounded Warrior Project accused of wasting donor money: ’It just makes me sick,’” Web, Jan. 27).
Charitable organizations are the con men of the 21st century. They have catchy names, sympathetic causes and clever and convincing advertisements that pull heavily on our heartstrings.
Until laws are enacted that severely restrict how much a charity can spend on things other than its intended target, I will not give to charities no matter how noble they may sound.
