This nation is in serious trouble, both domestically and internationally. We have open borders, illegal immigration, a looming financial crisis with a national debt nearing $20 trillion and unfunded governmental obligations totaling more than $100 trillion. We also have growing welfare programs and a level of polarization never seen before in this country.

Internationally, we face an apocalyptic nightmare from radical Islam, an economic/military challenge from China, apparent intercontinental-ballistic-missile testing from North Korea, lost respect from our friends, increasing enmity from our enemies, and a resurgent Russian presence in the Middle East.

One Republican presidential candidate claims President Obama knows what he is doing and another insinuates the president is too incompetent to know what he is doing. Unfortunately, the result is the same. If this is part of Mr. Obama’s promised transformation of the country, one has to marvel at his success. If this is simple incompetence, one has to wonder why career government employees have not rebelled against Mr. Obama’s incompetent political appointees and why the Congress has acquiesced.

A major area of concern is Mr. Obama’s history of platitudes and his catering to Muslims, starting in Cairo in 2009 when he stated that the United States is not at war with the Muslim world. More recently, Mr. Obama has been willing to allow into the country unknown numbers of Muslim “refugees” — despite warnings from our top intelligence officials, objection by the American public and the European example of the danger of mass Muslim immigration.

The president recently visited a Baltimore mosque that is under surveillance by the Federal Bureau of Investigation because of its association with the radical Muslim Brotherhood. Is this all part of Mr. Obama’s “transformation”? Republican presidential candidates, having raised this question, need to pursue an answer further, along with Muslims from within the American community, such as Zuhdi Jasser, head of the Muslim Reform Movement.
