A UPS driver in Missouri is being hailed a hero after he helped rescue a captive woman who wrote “call 911” on a package.
The driver called Franklin County police after picking up a package at a home in Robertsville on Tuesday, CNN reported. The woman, who was allegedly being held hostage at the home by her husband, had somehow managed to write “call 911” on the package, according to the documents.
A SWAT team sent to the house later arrested 33-year-old James Tyler Jordan.
Mr. Jordan is accused of beating, sexually assaulting and imprisoning his wife. A 3-year-old child was also allegedly found locked in a bedroom without food or water for 15 hours, according to the court documents.
Franklin County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. T.J. Wild told CNN affiliate KMOV that the UPS driver was a “huge help” in rescuing the woman.
UPS also praised its employee for his quick action.
“We are grateful this UPS driver with more than a decade of service followed protocol when he saw a customer in distress and contacted authorities after he saw her message to contact 911,” the company said in a statement, CNN reported. “Our drivers are very familiar with their routes, and are trained to be aware of their surroundings and respond to requests for assistance.”
Mr. Jordan is charged with domestic assault, sodomy, felonious restraint, unlawful use of a weapon and endangering the welfare of a child. His bond is set at $100,000 cash only, CNN reported.
