Miami fisherman Mark Quartiano takes pride in his ability to catch sharks, but on Wednesday he reeled in something else entirely: cocaine.

Mr. Quartiano was out on his charter boat with students from the University of Miami this week when he came across a mysterious “brick” in the water. Further inspection revealed it to be a kilo of cocaine.

“No catch-and-release here! In the well!” he wrote to his nearly 70,000 Instagram followers.

“Square grouper!” one of his fans joked.

The former officer then notified law enforcement so the U.S. Coast Guard could secure the drugs, a local ABC affiliate reported Wednesday.

The fisherman told the station that although he has witnessed marijuana floating in the ocean, cocaine was a first in over 40 years on the water.
