PHOENIX (AP) - A Phoenix woman accused of not feeding her 9-month-old son for nearly three weeks in 2014 has pleaded guilty to two child abuse charges.
Maricopa County Superior Court officials say Veronica Marie Diaz entered her plea Thursday to one count of child abuse and one count of attempted child abuse.
She’s scheduled to be sentenced on Jan. 19.
Prosecutors say Diaz’s child was unresponsive when her boyfriend took the baby to a hospital in March 2014.
When doctors examined the child, his kidneys were failing and he was less than half the normal body weight for a child his age.
Diaz’s four other children were taken into state custody after her arrest.
Her boyfriend also is facing charges in the abuse case.
