LOS ANGELES (AP) - Authorities say a 20-year-old man has been charged with accidentally shooting his friend at a hiking trail in Los Angeles.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office said Thursday Heriberto Gonzalez was charged with involuntary manslaughter, unlawful firearm activity and discharge of a firearm with gross negligence.

Prosecutors say Gonzalez and his friends went on a hiking trail in the San Fernando Valley community of Tarzana to shoot a handgun earlier this month. When the group returned to the car, authorities say Gonzalez accidentally discharged the gun, killing 24-year-old Angela Hernandez who was in the front passenger seat.

Gonzalez pleaded not guilty to the charges on Wednesday. He faces more than four years in state prison if convicted.
