PITTSTON, Pa. (AP) - A statue of Christopher Columbus fell on a car after the vehicle struck its base in a northeast Pennsylvania town.

The accident occurred around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in downtown Pittston.

Police say a motorist ran off the road and struck the corner of the marble statue, causing it to topple over his vehicle.

The man was taken to a hospital. His condition is not known.

The statue was lifted off the car and does not appear damaged. Officials are working on a place to put it back into place.
