Comedian Trevor Noah is still making waves over an interview he did with conservative pundit Tomi Lahren on Nov. 30.
A New York radio station interviewed “The Daily Show” host Wednesday on a wide range of topics, including from his time growing up in South Africa to racial politics in the United States. The 45-minute discussion soon turned to fan reaction to his interview with Ms. Lahren of The Blaze. The television show host said he was taken aback by the hypocrisy of many viewers who identify as progressive.
“What I didn’t like was afterward, people who claim to be progressive saying things like, ’Oh, this c-word, this b-h,” Mr. Noah told Breakfast Club Power 105.1 FM. “You get people saying, ’I’m glad you put this dumb blonde b-h in her place.’ I’m like, ’No. Do you see what you’ve just done now? You’ve taken up a cudgel of misogyny to use against her.’ You can’t do that when it suits you. You can’t be like, ’I’m for women’s rights, but that b-h over there!’ It’s like, no. I don’t stand for that. I honestly don’t.”
The comedian added that charges Ms. Lahren only appeared on his show because she is a beautiful woman are bizarre.
“No, you didn’t notice when I talked to an average-looking white man,” Mr. Noah said. “I’ve had many conservative people on my show. I’ve talked to them afterwards.”
Ms. Lahren’s recent appearance on “The Daily Show” generated social media sparks as the two pundits clashed over the Black Lives Matter campaign and national anthem protests in the National Football League.
“Trevor Noah is a good guy, but he likened me to a ’racist uncle’ before I stepped on the stage. Thanks, bud. […] If Trevor Noah appeared in front of a conservative audience and was booed and jeered, what do you think the mainstream would label those folks?” Ms. Lahren asked during a “Final Thoughts” broadcast on Dec. 5. “Racists? Bigots? Deplorables? Take your pick. But The Daily Show crowd booed and heckled me for 20 minutes.”
