HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - An East Windsor man who authorities say tried to set a Manchester house on fire but failed due to rain has pleaded guilty to attempted first-degree arson.
The Hartford Courant reports (https://cour.at/2h1csNJ ) 25-year-old Zachary Reddick pleaded guilty Tuesday under the Alford doctrine. That means Reddick doesn’t admit guilt but acknowledges there’s enough evidence for a conviction. He was sentenced to 12 years in prison, suspended after four years.
Prosecutors say residents at the home reported smelling gasoline on March 2 and saw someone walking away carrying a gas can. Officers later went to Reddick’s home and found a gas can on his porch.
Investigators found liquid poured around the Manchester home and wooden matches that had been lit.
Prosecutors say the rain prevented Reddick from carrying out his plan.
